Egg Hunt & Marshmallow Harvest opens 20th Anniversary Celebrations at Great Country Farms

Egg Hunt & Marshmallow Harvest opens 20th Anniversary Celebrations at Great Country Farms

Word on the farm is “peeps” are blooming, eggs are hiding and the Loudoun Hounds will be out!  The Egg Hunt & Marshmallow Harvest  on March 23 & 24 is heralded by the Farm’s mysterious crop of colorful marshmallow peeps that appear overnight.  Visitors can harvest these treats and enjoy marshmallow roasting over the bonfire kept by Farmer Bob Zurschmeide and his faithful pup, Sophie. “This tradition is one of my favorite events of the last 20 years,” says Bob, “We get to meet the kids and grand kids of our original visitors.” Over 7,000 treat filled eggs are hidden in 4 age-based hunts each day.

The Loudoun Hounds Professional Baseball Club is adding to the fun this year with a special appearance each day by Fetch, the team’s loyal mascot.  Fetch will be hiding some special prize eggs and hosting inflatables for Pitching and Batting.  Each child will also receive their own bucket sponsored by Macaroni Kid for collecting eggs and marshmallow peeps.   Due to popular demand, advanced Egg Hunt tickets are recommended and are available online (see details below).

The Easter Bunny attends each hunt and loves taking pics with the kids. The fun continues as children visit the newly hatched peeps and farm animals in the barnyard then take a hayride tour of the farm and check out the antique tractor barn.  Be one of the first to enjoy the farm’s new 80’ Triple Slide, the newest attraction in the 5 acre farm style play area.  The giant jumping pillow awaits some bouncing fun.

A special highlight is picking up your own family of baby chicks to raise and keep or return to the farm to join our laying hens. Advance Chick reservations are required and pick up is available starting at 2pm March 23rd.   Other attractions include a ride on the cow train and adult tickets include a special farm wine-tasting at neighboring Bluemont Vineyards across the street from the farm. All ages can enjoy lunch in the Roosteraunt and the Farm Market is stocked with jams, jellies and local honey.
